Rehabilitation of the Headwaters of Skinner's Creek

Envirofund has provided the Zentveld family with grant funding to rehabilitate the headwaters of Skinner's Creek - which runs through the property - for the purpose of further protecting the existing rainforest remnants and clearing of any weeds. This funding will enable the Zentvelds to develop and monitor a program of regeneration and planting of native species.

The end result will be the provision of suitable habitat for a native wildlife corridor and will also assist in clearing the water and edges of Skinner's Creek.

As this is a ongoing project the images below will highlight the areas worked on and regularly show the improvements by way of before and after images.

The noticeable increase in birdlife has highlighted the resounding success of this project funded by Envirofund. The before image (taken December 5, 2005) and after image (taken October 22, 2006) demonstrate the dramatic aesthetic improvements to the area.

Approximately 4 ½ hectares have been set aside as a wildlife corridor to balance the monoculture planting of 40,000 coffee trees and since no spray is used on these trees the biodiversity created with the planting of creek-edge shrubs and trees will serve to create a safe haven for wildlife.
